DAY 1
ARRIVAL IN SIEM REAP (D)
Assemble at the airport for your flight to Siem Reap. Siem Reap — a small colonial town, charming and pleasant enough to roam around, with some fine examples of French colonial architecture. Upon arrival, proceed to north of Angkor (approx about 20km), which is at the foot of the Kulen Mountains, sits the remarkable small temple of "Banteay Srei". Banteay Srei ("The Citadel of the Women"). It was called fabled pink temple of the women because it was make of pink sandstone and considered a tribute to the beauty of women. Its petite size, delicate carvings and remarkable state of preservation make Bantey Srei a favourite among the people. On the way back, proceed to visit Ta Prohm — a temple in its "natural state". Surrounded by jungle, its labyrinth of stone hallways is overgrown with roots and limbs of the massive Banyan trees which envelope the stones tentacles. In the afternoon, visit the Roluos group. Located 12km southeast of Siem Reap, it was the first major capital of the Khmer Empire during the Angkorian era. The three
monuments in the Ruluos Group offer a look at the earliest definition of Khmer
civilization. These temples, Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko, were built during the 9th century under Indravarman I. Tonight, enjoy your dinner alongside Khmer Traditional dance show.
DAY 2
SIEM REAP (BLD)
After breakfast, visit the South Gate of Angkor Thom. This fortified city of Angkor Thom (Great Angkor or Great City), was built by Angkors greatest king, Jayavarman VII (1181 — 1219). Sat at the heart of Angkor Thom, the giant faces of Bayon have become one of the most recognizable images connected to classic Khmer art and architecture. Next, visit the Terrace of the Elephant, Terrace of the Leper King, the Phimeanakas and Baphoun. At noon, visit the World Heritage — Angkor Wat, the largest temple in the world with volume of stones equalizing that of the Cheops Pyramid in the Egypt. The temple was built by King Suryarvarman II from 1113 — 1150AD when the Khmer Civilization was at the height of its development, representing one of humankind's most astonishing and enduring architectural achievements. Angkor Wat is surrounded by a moat with an exterior wall that has distinctively rendered Apsara carvings which adorned the wall throughout the temple. Apart from that, the exterior walls of the lower level displayed the most extraordinary bas-reliefs, depicting stories and characters from the Hindu mythology as well as the historical war events of Suryarvarman II. In the evening, proceed to watch sunset at Phnom Bakheng.
