Guilin has been credited as one of the most picturesque locations in all of China and in part because of that reputation, it remains one of the most popular tourist sites for Western visitors. This charming location can be visited at any time of year thanks to its subtropical climate. The name, which translates to “forest of osmanthus”, is quite literal and any visitor will be enveloped by the fragrant sweetness of the osmanthus blossoms.

Boat Cruises
Boat cruises can be taken along the Li River, a crystal clear winding river surrounded by mountains. Elephant Trunk Hill
Where the Yang and Li rivers meet is perhaps one of the most famous peaks in all of Guilin. This rock hill has an arched hole which is called a water-moon arch. This arched hole is the basis of the striking resemblance to an elephant sipping water from the rivers via its trunk.
Reed Flute Cave
Inside of the Guangming Hill, located along the northwestern edge of the city you will find the Reed Flute Cave. This cave features unique flutes growing on the hill, the sounds and décor of which result in a melodious backdrop well worth the visit.
In the centre of Guilin City is the famed Solitary Beauty Hill. This peak is nestled among the ancient dwelling of Prince Jingjiang right in the centre of the city and from it one can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire province. The hilltop takes up 6,100 square metres of beautiful horizontal trees growing upside it and a breath-taking view from the buildings on top.
Rice production is ever-present in this area of the world, but what is perhaps most unique about this location is the Longji rice terraces. These rolling hills are covered with what appear to be moving waves of rice terraces. The area is not only famous among tourists, but is referred to by locals as the Dragon Backbones because of the moving appearance and the spinal divides among the brightly coloured rice fields.
Along the Eastern part of the Li River there is the Seven Star Park. This park features seven peaks which resemble the Big Dipper. Of course, in addition to the constellation appearance of peaks, this park boasts beautiful flora and fauna in tandem with natural wildlife.
Yangshuo
Just 65km south of the city is Yangshuo, an ancient city whose history spans no less than two thousand years. This particular location is well known among locals and tourists alike for its panoramic views of the rivers and hills, as well as its bar streets. Fengyu Cave
In Lipu County, roughly 100km south of Guilin, one will find the famous Fengyu Cave. This cave and the Swan Feather Temple on the premises are both emblematic of the historical relics and natural scenic routes afforded by this unique location.
